More on small primer .45

Was at the range a few days ago and the fellow next to me was shooting his .45. He left without picking up his brass and I picked up a few. Sure enough, the were sm. primer Federals. Upon closer inspection, they showed sooty spots around the primer on a few of the cases. This was new ammo. I thought maybe I had fouled up when I loaded some of these earlier(post about 10 threads down) but now will avoid these.

I just ran 100 rds of reloads with Federal and Blazer SP brass with Win SP through my Kimber Target II. One box had 4.8 gr of Bullseye with 230 gr FMJ, the other had 4.5 gr Bullseye with 230 LRN. Both were very accurate and functioned perfectly, no leaks around primers, good ignition and powder burn. Bullseye is dirty, but thats why I clean the gun when I get home.

Sooty spots...If there's a leak, it will erode the breech face. I know, I've had it happen with an AR. The primers had leaked and would upon examination show holes that could be seen with even my old eyes. I have a hard time believing Federal Cartridge of Anoka Ill would pass a product that did any such thing. The leaks will cause gas cutting and cratering of the breech or bolt face. This would be noticed. The ammo would be discontinued. Show me.

The small primer brass is fine to reload, I use it in 45 ACP revolvers just to keep it seperate from my large primer brass. The aluminum cases with small primers are only ment to be fired once, don't reload them.
