Columbian Mauser info please.
I recently bought a Columbian Mauser in 30/06 and all's it is a barrel and action with a trigger so what I want to know is this action a M98 action and if so will it be strong enough to be taken out to a .458 as there's nothing else that I can do with it restoration wise as there's nothing else that came with it and I also have a M17 action that was given to me and it has stamped on the top of the receiver M17 Property of USA,1917 but this was barrelled in .243 by the previous owner so I was wondering will this action also take something as beefy as a big .45 or .50 cal round?
Thanks in advance for your help, regards

re: .458 upgrade
Well, the mauser action was the basis for the remington 700 and others. It is a strong action but yours is also older and should be looked at by a professional gunsmith since the history of your rifle is an unknown. I do not see any reason that this would not work, but you will probably have to change everything except the action including the bolt.
