WRA 5 MIL Serial Block Hammer and Magcatch questions?

I have questions on the 5 mil serial number Winchesters. Trying to cover 5,573 mil to 5,811 mil.
Being near the transition makes finding this info tuff to nail down.
Has anyone noticed a certain range of use of the Winchester Flat Hammers marked W on one side and S on the otherside early in this block or later?
Or found with mixed use thru this 5mil serial range?

Same question (more or less) about the W marked (Not The White Hammer) Winchester Flat hammers. Are they Found early or later in the block?
Or also found mixed in this range?

Now the WRA Type IIA magcatch. Have originals early in the 5 mil been found with the Type IIA magcatch? I would expect to see the use of Type IIA Magcatch early, then the switch to the Type III magcatch.
But if so at what range?

Guesses appreciated along with your experiences, or a reference to a CC Newsletter covering this would be most helpful if you could point it out. At this point I do not own all the CC back newsletters, just some early ones passed to me after I joined from a longtime original member and roughly the last 3-4 years worth.

    Any input much appreciated,
    Charlie-painter777

I have a 5.74 Winchester that came with w/s hammer. It also has the type 2 barrel band. As far as the mag catch goes,it's the type 3. I doubt any of that helps though.

If ya'll recall I came across and bought 2 carbines a while back.
In getting ready to swap the stocks on them and while noting how they came a couple questions popped up.

#1 is a 5,2 Inland sitting in a WRA stock with all correct WRA metal.
From frt sight (N), // barrel band, PI Type V slide, and Round AI bolt with all Inland internals.
This one has a complete WRA T3 trigger housing with all WRA internals in it.
The Housing looks like it had never been apart, Until I tore in to it.
That's right MARCUS.... I took it apart
Complete with the W/S hammer, "EW" push safety, TYPE IIA Mag catch , Inverted W trigger.

A WRA T3 housing with a Type IIA magcatch, per Riesch (est):
Type IIA .W marked magcatch 1,1 mil.
    Type III housing 1,22 mil
    "EW" safety 1,3 mil
    W/S flat hammer 1,28 mil

I guess I just didn't realize how early the T3 housings came in to use. When thinking about Type III's, I've always found myself thinking of WRA's 5 mil serial block. Now realize they were used much earlier.

My original thoughts were......... Could the Type IIA magcatch be found in the early 5 mil range?
And when did the W/S hammers show up?
So with the Magcatch, maybe still possible, but probably unlikely.
JimF and Hooks, you guys are right, It's Tough getting old.....

    Thx Guys,
    Charlie-painter777

    Charlie,

See also NL #359. There is a good update on Winchester hammers by BQ and the W/S hammer is specifically mentioned. Also the COM in this edition has the W/S hammer.

My 5.6 Win is thought to be original. It was made in March 44

It has the W/S hammer, type 3 mag catch (M no underline), a type 5 (oil hole) trigger housing, EW push safety, type 2 band, mine came with an Underwood recoil plate, one of 5,000 sent to Winchester in Nov 1943, it is the original RP for that stock as the machine marks were etched into the wood. Another mirror image Carbine in the CC data base a few hundred away has an Underwood RP as well. It also has an SW oiler. I've had this one for 30+years and it shows no trace of a rebuild. If it was messed with, that Underwood plate would be long gone.

I should point out that a year or so ago Marty Black had a CC carbine of the month that was built on the same day, 200 numbers apart, it had some different parts, plus a flip sight, so Winchester had the "what's in the parts bin " approach for sure.
