    A picture of Bubba.........

Ever wonder just who Bubba is/was? Here's a photo of him and his rifle taken on a hill overlooking Mandalay in March, 1945. Rather cheesy photo but it looks like he did a pretty good job on the rifle.

I wouldn't think you could count that as an actual Bubba. He looks like a soldier of some type which would make the rifle a military alteration with a "history" and thus highly collectible.

I was being a bit of a smart arse there Aragorn. The photo shows Britishicon soldiers on Pagoda Hill in/near Mandalay in March 1945. It was a military alteration obviously, meaning it was altered while still in service, but I doubt it's the official type your thinking of unless theres proof to suggest otherwise. A bit far fetched but perhaps the forestock got damaged or else the soldier carring it spied a No.5 and was unable to beg borrow or steal one so... Who knows. Soldiers were and probably still are known to do all sorts of mods when the HMFIC ain't looking.
HOH, thats pretty much my perception of Bubba the Gun Plumber as well.

    Bubba Mackenzie

Bubbas live north of the 49th. Was at a show recently where a number of Ross 1910's with "Jungle Carbine" stock treatments were advertised as being "as issued to the troops". Amazingly they were priced at a mere $250.00 each!

this was done for the canadian rangers(home gaurd that served in the west cost in ww2) so yes alot of the cut down ross rifles are cut down but they where done by gov the ones that did not get cut down by the gov made it into the hands of hunters and farmers and was cut down to make a hunting rifle(different thinking back then something like there's lots and there cheap lets cut them up this is modern bubba thinking) and theres no replacement parts to rebuild. ive never seen a full uncut ross i bet they fetch a good price

bubba well you would need a pic of a mentally challenged man with a hacksaw(i had to make that PC)

Sometimes bubba had skills. Somtimes a hacksaw is his weapon of choice. I hope to debubba the Lithgowicon. The No 4 may be beyond hope even though it is the stepchild of my Enfield collection I have grown to appreciate it for what it is. I agree whith the opinion stated by many others here bubba often had good intentions and the decision to "spoterize" a milsurp firearm was completely logical in years gone by.It seems much more appropriate to restore them today.

Perhaps you could get away with that kind of "liberty" more easily in the "forgotten army"! Probably a rifle belonged to a casualty and thus not attached to the name of the soldier who gleaned and modified it.
