    A simple de-sporterized No4 Lee Enfield

    Hi folks,

Recently finished this one. I was out of No4Mk1 forends so I used a Mk2 which I modified to fit.

Modified the forend? Could be sneaky and make a No.4 Mk.1/2 out the rifle. The '49 FTR date makes it even more tempting...

Nice restoration effort! I fitted a MkII forestock on my first rebuild of a No.4 rifle. Shoots just fine too!

I do like the subdued finish of the wood especially!

Thanks guys. jmoore, indeed it would be interesting to attempt the Mk1/2 conversion but modifying a forend is a lot easier!

Re. wood finish: I stripped the original finish on the forend and handguards (I believe these are new Pakistani parts), and it was a good idea. The wood grain is quite nice under the dark walnut stain / surface finish that they put on these parts wherever they are made. Then, pure boiled linseed oilicon was all they needed to look decent.
