A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... I haven’t seen a Slazenger .22 Hornet before. Are they common in Australiaicon?
How about a few details on the one at the top with the bipod?
The Slazenger Hornets were quite common. They were produced during a period post WW2 when there was a shortage of sporting rifles in Aust. These days they do pop up from time to time, but their "collector value" has seen the prices go up recently. Great shooter.

The bipod rifle is a former Lithgow action 303/25 sporter (my first Lee Enfield, nearly 30 years ago) I fitted it with a good "H" .303 barrel and set about to build a competition rifle for High Power. The main aim was to compete with the big guys for 1/10th the cost.
I fitted an aluminium block to the action from in front of the butt socket to under the barrel knox. The foreend I made from hardwood and fitted it to the block with the set screws visible at the side. It doesn't contact the action or barrel anywhere. The butt is an old chopped up coachwood butt with bits grafted on and shaped as you see. Scope is a BSA 6-24x56, 'pod is a Harris 9 to 13 Pivot and aftermarket pod-lock. It almost shoots MOA from the couple of goes I've had, but haven't had a chance to give it a good work out.

My holy grail would be very simple, a No 4 from the Fazakerly factory dated April 1954 in the light beech wood. ( my DOB and the factory is or was 1 mile away from my present location.) Not much is it,

I've gotten lucky, and have most of mine.

    Pattern 14 .22 cal- done
    SMLE MkI***- done
    No4 DCRA- done
    No4MkI T- done x3
    RIC carbine- done
    Enforcer- done
    L42A1- done
    Still lacking:

CNo7- sorta done, have a stripped receiver, and when my friend kicks the bucket, I get his!
Lee Metford Cav carbine- I do know where one is, and IT WILL BE MINE!

Yeah I got my holy grail. its a BSA 1916 shtle mk III* in very good condition with all matching serial numbers as far as i can tell without removing the stocks it shoots really well at the range, only thing missing was a cleaning kit which i have now bought from ebay and my wife has bought me a 1917 bayonet to match it. Im really pleased and i thought that would be it, but i find myself looking for a markIV or V now.... strange how addictive these things can be haha. i think i want a mark V now, it will take a while to savew up though, but i do see the odd one in the trade in sections of the gun shops now and again.

My first post. I have been lurking for a bit, but have been so impressed with the collections and knowledge of the members here!

Mine has got to be an Enforcer!!

Also, I have yet to come across a nice Long Lee!

I have a couple more to add to this picture, but it takes alot of effort to get everything out of the safes and assembled for a picture. Added a Longbranch and an Indian rework since this picture.

I have been lucky to have added the lens cloth, brush, container and sling to the L42A1 with the help of some new friends across the pond. Still need the IWS mount. Anyone?

    Brian
