Broomhandle mauser ammo

Could you tell me if this ammo is safe to fire in the C96, which is in excellent condition.
The box is marked 7.62 mm and what looks like naboje pistoleto, and 70 szt or sxt. some letters ar blured and the number 7107 on the back. It is a brown mil pack with no makers name.
The cases are brass with 55 and a small circle with very small numbers in it, could be 243.

It is Polish mil-surp Tokarev ammo. It will fit in your Broomhandle and go BANG, but many folks suggest not using higher pressure Tokarev ammo in old Mauser pistols. If your pistol is in good nick, with good springs, a small amount probably wouldn't be an issue, but there are plenty of really ratty C96 pistols out there.

The question is : DO you reload? I know that 7.62x25 TT brass can be made from .223 empties so, making pet loads for your C-96 should be a doable thing.

RCBS makes the 7.62x25 dies.

Posts: 253 It's not hard, and there is no reason to buy the forming die from RCBS at the cost of 190.00. Just use a copper pipe cutter to cut the .223 case down to apx. 25-27mm, anneal the top portion, run it into a 7.62x25 die, trim to 25mm, turn the neck to correct thickness and load. I'd load the first shot at a 10% reduction to get it formed, but after that it will be fine. There are some differences, and really it's meant to be uesd to form up for the 7.63 Mauser. But it will work in the x25.

As an owner of a C-96 , For heaven sakes "DO NOT USE 7.62 X 25 Tokarev Ammo",not matter the condition. Unless you want to blow up your gun ,and turn it into a couple hundred dollars worth of spare parts , then by all means go for it. The difference between the the 30 Mauser and the 7.62 x 25 is night and day, and were made at different times. From the stats below you will find major difference in the CUP

Why not buy Privi Partizan .30 Mauser, shoot it and reload the brass? Midway USA and Grafs have dies, bullets, etc. I think they and also AIM Surlpus sell Privi P. Ammo. I have run a couple boxes through my C96 without a problem.

Grafs has all the items you will need. They carry 30 mauser brass, a Lee set of dies for under $30.00 and you got the fundimentals. There is some commercial ammo out there that is 7.62 x 25 that is made in Portugal. Haven't seen it for awhile but it worked OK in my C96. Since then I have been rolling my own. I have lots of Tokarev but it is way too hot to shot in the old gun. You want to keep velocities down to 1200 FPS where the stuff from the Eastern block runs 1500 or higher.

I've put around 600 rds through my Mauser m712, without any problems. Great shooting ammo. Prvi's brass is great for reloads too. AIM is probably the best place to get the ammo - at least here in the US
