    Tried to sell It?

Just out of curiosity I put the M1821/41/51(found musket at thrift store) on Gun Broker (a site I have been watching for a 1911A1) to see if there was any interest in it. It maybe how I have it listed or how it's priced so I'll do some modifying and hope the right person comes along who will appreciate it. If any here have a pointer or two on GB especially for my musket I'm all ears.

Hey Patrick it's been awhile. I couldn't think of a person who would appreciate it more. Anyways I did have someone on GB ask me for more pictures and like a fool sent him to the thread about it. I know most bidders want pristine originals and I did advertise it as repaired refinished stock. If I don't sell it(and there are lots of mixed emotions here) I'll continue to cherish it and remember the fun we had trying to find out just what we had,and what on earth we had to do to make it right, or as close to right as I was capable of. I'll keep you up to date as always, your friend Dave.

I think that of those few people who appreciate how much work goes into a good restoration, a substantial percentage is probably already on these forums. For those who expect to find only "pristine originals", as if real-world arsenals had nothing better to do than put brand-new rifles into storage for the benefit of later collectors, there are always those "previously undiscovered caches" of miraculously matching Mausers etc. to lighten their wallets.

But as there is a lot of Bubba-ed stuff around, it is understandable that buyers are wary of something that has been refurbished, however conscientious the refurbisher may have been. And some want to brag about their "all-original" piece, even when they know in their hearts, it can't be so.

If the timing were different, I might have made a serious offer. But right now, things are barely under control without going hunting for another project. I haven't been shopping on the aution sites in a couple of years. The only time I look is when a link is posted on Milsurps!

Guys, based on what you know of my musket do you think my asking price is good? ($1900)

Dave, the bitter truth is that no-one is going to pay us for the time and trouble we take with these old bangers. The reward is in the satisfaction you get from turning a wallhanger into a usable rifle, and I truly do not wish to offend you, but IMOH your price is too high by "1" - the "1" at the front of the price tag.

Dave I'm afraid I have to agree with Patrick. True it is a scarce, even hard to find (rare?) gun but the collector's market is not geared toward items that didn't receive attention in major wars. Sorry, please don't think that I am trying to get you down on the price, right now I could not afford half the the price that Patrick and I are suggesting. I do wish you luck though.

I came back to this thread to ask you a question. I have been in contact with someone very interested in buying it. He kept asking me for the reserve price so I ended reserve and put opening bid at $1900.
He just contacted me and said he doesn't like auctions and if I would end it now and he will buy it for $2100? I tried to find anything on whether this is a GB rule breaker. Being new to GB I wonder if they are testing my intentions to screw them as if I end it GB gets nothing.
I thought about putting a buy it now price of $2100 and if he was serious he could just buy it no? I only have less then 2 days and was looking forward to seeing some bids but after reading your above comments maybe I should do the buy it now option. Help

That seems eminently fair to him and GB. If you were to withdraw from GB and he changed his mind, it would look a bit odd if you then needed to put it on GB again. Prospective buyers might wonder what was wrong.
