No ???? the rifle as Krinko pointed out is matching, and it came from another shooter who had been using it on a regular basis.
Over the years I have owned a fair number of milsurp rifles, up to now not one has had suspect headspacing

I was unaware of your past milsurp history. If i had known i would have never ask about the condition of the mauser chamber. Thanx for the info.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.

Concerning headspacing, I don't know if it makes any difference but, it seems to me this would.
The Yugoslavs were dedicated to their "safety breech" system. That is, the standard Mauser rifle leaves a small portion of the shell case unsupported by the chamber. While this has not proven a problem on the model 98, it did pose a problem on one conversion rifle the Yugoslavs had that left a bad taste in their mouths for that particular feature. Therefore, they cut a relief in the barrel face for the extractor allowing the case head to enter and be fully supported by the chamber.
This relief cut requires that the barrel be specifically clocked.
I would think, could e wrong, that that would require more exacting assembly of parts and help guaranty original positioning of the barrel and thus, headspace.
Please, do correct me if I am wrong. I am not about being 'right.' I much prefer information be "accurate."
