Possible deer loads 1. 168 gr Comb tech Ballistic Silvertips

4895 IMR is the military duplication load. Check with on line information from their site for current safe loads. Remember to be kind and load a bit light of full house loads. You'll find both bullet weights at their site.

I got the 4895 a while back because I knew it was the military duplicate.
I looked at the Hodgdon site but was concerned that there was no indication of a Garand load.
I do not want a modern 30-06 load.
The projectiles I have are not listed and I see variations in charges for bullets of the same weight.

Scratch the 160gr FTX from that list.
That is for my 30-30, I wrote it down under the Garand in error.

I don't know why I thought this was already posted to you but here it is. A little old but still OK. I would not use over a 168 to 173 in a Garand myself.

I do not remember that link but it is helpful.
I have saved it plus Emailed it to myself so I can access it anywhere, plus printed to keep in the gun room.
Thanks.

I've seen that article as well. Good info.
For me, I've been loading ~49 grains of IMR4895 under a 150 grain FMJBT (Either Hornady or Sierra). Average velocity is ~2700 fps and is pretty close to Greek HXP ammo. It is also below Sierra's max load as well as Speer's. Speer says their max load keeps pressure >50,000 CUP, so it is Garand safe.

I use 47 grains of either IMR (or H)4895 or Varget running the spectrum of 147 to 165 grain pills in jacketed and cast and they have cycled every M1 I have had in .30-06 with very good results. the same load works well in the 03a3 as well.
