Yeah, or if you really have a thing for A4's, it's the perfect specimen for an 03A4 clone. That's what I'd be thinking about doing for sure!

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I second the suggestion to try and find a base that fits your existing holes.

heres what the originals looked like:

It is a Remington 03-A3 that has been sporterized, and the Bishop stock fits the time frame of the 1960's. At that time there was little collector interest in the rifles, and even the NRA put out a booklet on how to sporterize your new NRA/DCM purchase rifle. By drilling and tapping for a scope, altering the bolt, and installing a sporter stock it made a nice inexpensive hunting rifle of that time period.

Funny you should mention the NRA booklet. I bought a pile of gun parts cheap at an estate sale a couple years back. In the pile was a 1957 NRA booklet entitled "How to Sporterize a Springfield", all covered in dust and cobwebs. The better part was that in the pile were ALL the parts to a mint 1903A4 (less the scope), mixed with parts from an Enfield, among other junk scopes, trigger guards and stuff. I was grinning like a fool for a month. Needless to say I did not follow the directions in the book.
