7.62 Conversion
I picked up a Lee Enfield that is marked 7.62 dated 1968. It has a Ramline(I think) plastic stock. I was told it was an Indian conversion....just curious as to what I have...what else do you need to know. Barrel is a little rusty....I am working on that.

Forum members will need more information to give a precise answer. Pictures of the rifle are best showing serial numbers and markings.
If it is Indian and of 1968 manfacture it will be a rifle made for 7.62 rather than a conversion. The Indians commenced production of 7.62 Enfields in the early 60's and continued through to the mid 70's.
India still manufacture a sporting version of the Lee-Enfield in 8mm Ordnance Factory Board

If the rear sight is on the barrel, it was made in India.

BTW, the barrel cleaned up well, I understand that it is not a conversion but a built from the ground up as a 308 NATO. It shoots OK but I have only tried some unknown mil-surplus stuff. I think I can get it to shoot a lot better once I work up some hand loads for it. I do need to find a magazine. This one is a bit loose and it doesn't feed smooth.

I am really leaning toward going more for the scout rifle concept. I will read up on those links but I am not interested in restoring the rifle to original. I hope to scope it though.
