Star gaged SA barrel is dated 10-29

If it served in WWII, it will not look like a NM rifle. However, there are ways of telling if it was issued as a NM. Good luck.

I have seen numerous posts about SRS check. Could someone explain what that is for me. I am unfamiliar with this term. Just wanting to expand my knowledge. TIA

SRS is Springfield Research Service. They are a group that has done research in the National Arcives and other sources on information about specific firearms. Supposedly, they have information on about 5-10% of M1903s, M1s, M1911s and a number of other firearms. If you get a "hit", it will tell you something about the particular firearm on a specific date. It will NOT tell you the entire history of the gun. For example, the serial number may be on a list of rifles issued to a training unit in 1921 -- or that the rifle was sent to Springfield Armory or some other place for overhaul. Often, if a NM or DCM sales rifle, all that they have would be the sales receipt, if there is one.

By subscribing to the SRS' magazine, Martial Arms Collector, you can send away for the record. Depending on what is contained it can cost in the $35-150 range.
