    Hi Thompson28,

Welcome to the forum. Do you own a Thompson SMG? If you do could you post a photos(?)

I'd love to have one, or just to only shoot one someday.
I keep buying lotto tickets but hasn't hasn't quite worked out for me yet!

I bought a de-milled' Thompson a few years ago just to have a representative example.
I was surprised how heavy they are!
(They don't look to be very heavy by the way guys handle them in gangster movies and war movies)

I can only imagine how difficult they'd be to lug around; especially with a large drum magazine attached.

Nice one Harlan! Over here they build them as semi autos. Funny to shoot.

my garand collection went to 16 before i hooked up with this site and now my interest with bolt actions has been aroused. I still go for the cheaper shooters that look not to beat up and love to learn how to take care of the different rifles. I have two boys (20&16) who are not too interested in my hobby now, but hope they will or who will keep up the history of these fine pieces of our past.

    Dave,
I've noticed you've been looking at mausers lately, but don't forget about Springfield 1903's. (They really look at home with our Garands!)
There's lots of 1903's around that fall into the shooter price range too.

(Not that I'm biased toward American milsurps or anything like that)

they do look good together. I will look into the 1903's but thought they where out of my price range for a good (you know field or service grade) example. I'll have a look on your advice, thanks.

I will buy any good deal on a milsurp, and I own a bunch, but....

I only really care for Springfield 1903's and I will let an 03A3 creep in if its nice or needs a home.

    Cheers
    Tom

I was tempted to just select the first box. A man could go mad (with joy) just trying to learn all there is to know about Lee-Enfields. But then all those other tempting choices... Springfields, Garands, Nagants, Mausers, Ariskakas... So many rifles. So little time.

    ALL of it!

I only didn't check two boxes because I have yet to have anything in those categories!

My first love is NFA - MG's & suppressors, followed closely by defensive handguns.

Immediately following that I fell for the early or transitional semi's rifles. In that I have a Garand, several M1icon Carbines, SKS, Ljungman, Hakim, MAS49, MAS49/56 (.308). Desperately deficient in an MAS44, FN49, G/K43, Tokarev & Rashid.

I love bolt guns too, must have close to ten Mosins, half that many Mausers, a couple of Enfields, couple of Carcanos, Berthier, K31icon, this uber cool Steyr M95 - some broken or incomplete (so far!) I've sat in one day with 8 or 10 of these little wonders and gone through 2k+ rounds.

In fact, except for my SHTFR 50BMG rifle, I have never owned a commercial centerfire bolt action!

I only have a few surplus pistols: a Webley MKVI, unfortunately converted to .45 Autorim, a Nagant revolver, couple of CZ52's, a Polish P64 Makarov (I occasionally carry this one.)

My big lacks are pre-1900, much American stuff, any Jap stuff, any martial shotguns and few handguns.

I try to buy it when it's cheap, like the Mosin hoard. I am not a stickler for it being perfect, although I prefer original to sporterized. I will modify an imperfect specimen, but keep all the original pieces. I shoot EVERYTHING - even if it isn't recommended!

Hope to acquire in the next couple of years: 5+ M95's in 8x56R, some of these cheap Czechicon and Polish (and other) cold war era martial pistols, an 03A3, Jungle Carbine, MAS36/51, Krag, Tokarev rifle - maybe at least a replica Trenchbroom - so many!!!

I like alot of old war time firearms. I collected garands, 1903 + 1903a3's, german mausers, and just recently got into older french rifles.
