At the Range with a AIA B2
Shot a AIA B2 at the range yesterday for the first time and wow will it shoot. I know there was much said about AIA rifles and one person in particular did their best to criticize the gun even though they never shot one.
This gun belongs to a good friend who has never fired it so I convinced him to take it to the range.
I did my best to sight it in at 300 yards firing at a "clay pigeon" and after several rounds was able to hit the target which in itself is pretty good in my opinion. It was suprisingly easy to sight-in considering at 300 yards the scope was so far off I wasn't sure if the first shot landed in the forest or on the moon. We spotted the second shot and after huge adjustments the 7th shot hit the clay.
The target shown was shot by my son at 100 yards using a rest and firing.308 Nosler Custom Match Grade 168gr. Considering the scope had been mounted with a tilt of around 5 degrees I think the group is more than adequate at 1/2 inch. This target was difficult to use as my son had to aim at the bottom as being sighted in at 300 it would have shot far too high to register a hit.
My son thinks all three shots could be touching with a "better shooter". I believe with a higher grade mildot scope a better group would be realistic as aiming using the mildot reticle would make sighting much easier. I think a couple of clicks left and it will be exactly where I want it.
We also used a few rounds of Winchester Ranger 168gr and the group my son shot with them was almost as good and he called the one shot that was just outside of the 1/2 inch.
I think it likes 168gr and am not sure custom loading would improve accuracy very much.
The gun worked flawlessly and being quite heavy recoil was moderate. My friend kept it a secret that he had this gun for over three years knowing I would be relentless in "bugging" him to sell me it. Now that I have shot it the "battle" really begins and I know it is just a matter of time 'till I own it.
NOTHING upsets me more than someone criticizing a product without first hand experience using it. I guess I am just as biased as now I want to prove just how well the line of AIA firearms will shoot. There is no doubt the negative comments hurt sales and you have no idea how that PMO.
My 7.62X39 has been far more accurate at 300 yards than I would have guessed using suprlus ammo and I have also shot a No4 MkIV which also was very accurate.
Just to explain why I first sighted it in at 300. Other than shooting .22rimfire I really dislike shooting at less than 300. I have never been so obsessed with super tight groups at short ranges, just close groups at greater distances.
Once this is my gun I am going to put a good mildot scope on it and visit a range about 90 minutes from where I live with targets out to 600 yards. I think with high quality ammo this is going to be a great gun past 800 yards.

Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

Nice groups but its still not a real lee enfield with any history.
I toyed with the thought of purchasing one a few years back but came to the conclusion that I would rather spend the One Thousand whatever on a real piece of history.
Not to bash the gun itself it obviously shoots, but so do most new rifles these days. The AIAs sure look good in those stocks I have to admit the looks are adictive.
Cheers

Have never insinuated the AIA rifles are Lee Enfields, I have 31 with real history, however considering the asking price of a B2 in Australia is $1,670.00 which converts to $1,684.00 Candian they were a bargain at $750.00.
I judge most purchases as value for money spent and think these rifles give great "bang for the buck".
As previously mentioned, when I get to own this B2 and put a mil-dot scope on it that is worth more than the rifle I will post what it is capable of out past 300 yards.

Great news..AIA is back and building rifles again. Now B2's are back in production I look forward to purchasing one as my friend insinuates I would have to remove his from his "cold dead hands". Oh well I can reluctantly accept his attitude as I do have some Lee Enfields that will never be for sale (well at least while I am still breathing) and there is no way I would sell my AIA 7.62X39.
I like most are excited that AIA is back, they build great firearms and deserve our support.
Being the dreamer I am I can already envision my B2 with a Vortex Viper HS LR 6-25X50 FFP punching holes out past 800 yards.

Thanks for that. I've seriously considered those B2's.
With limited AIA production recommencing, I have put my hand up for one of their limited production run L42 rifle. Price is higher and wait is longer, but it all will be worthwhile.

Well today I purchased a B2, not the one I hoped to get but another friend also had one and agreed to sell it.
It has a Pecar 6X scope which is original and gives the gun a great look.
Off to the range soon as I have a case of Nosler Custom .308's and they are great shells and think this might make a good combination.
It is presently zeroed at 150 yards and will change that to 300 first time out.
Pretty good feeling to finally get a B2 as they are pretty rare here and usually sell so quickly when put up for sale.
