Repairing Pattern 1907 Lithgow Bayonet

I recently purchased a Pattern 1907 bayonet manufactered by Lithgow in 1943. The press stud or locking bolt in the pommel will not move, most likely frozen in position due to oxidation.

My question is what is the preferred method to fixinf this problem? Is any type of commercial penetrating oil OK to use?

Any penetraiting oil should do, I leave them to soak then use a vice to jack them you need to make something to sit at the back to allow the travel of the lock bolt, you may have to jack it in and out a few times until it moves freely.

A quick question for Lithgow 1907 bayonet owners. I have just purchased a mint. Lithgow jJnuary 1942 production. In a tear drop stud scabbard. Stamped RE in a circle. Slazenger hand grips. The blade is perfect and jet black in colour. Seen a few like this. Is this the correct factory finish "as new" or has this bayonet been refinished? Stampings are correct XMA. ( X is the flex test stamping). many thanks for the help, Lester

The finish on the Lithgow bayonets was black 1942 production would have been parkerised
