    Not A Savage

I'm not sure if any of you followed this auction, but now that it is over, I can comment. Somebody was very creative in turning a No4 MkI Maltby into a No4 MkI Savage. I was very surprised to see it go for $337.57 shipped. I'm not sure if the buyer thought it was a unique Savage or just liked the creativity of somebody to make it a Savage.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I'm not sure why they'd bother. Not that I'm knocking Savage made No.4's, they're fine rifles, if anything they're somewhat underpriced. I'm just not seeing any benefit here, especially when the US PROPERTY stamp is so poorly done.

Because Mk.1 Savages are rare, compared to Mk.1*s that is.

It has been so poorly done that it would only fool a novice so we can only assume that was the target market.
