German/Polish/Spanish KAR 98
Up at auction this morning is what I believe to be a Danzig 1918 KAR 98 taken into Polish service and upgraded to Polish kbk wz 1898 standards and later shipped to Spain during the Spanish Civil War.
Took me a bit to decipher this but the signs all seem to be there. It has the Polish stacking rod and the Carcano style sling bolt in the butt stock. It has been sanded at some point unfortunately but on the base of the buttstock is a faint impression of what looks like an MP8 Cartouche.
I doubt I'll be able to afford it but I'm going to go see how much it goes for. I doubt anyone else there made the connection to what it really is but that doesn't mean they won't bid a fortune for it. They are nuts at this auction.
If anything, it seems as if these books I've been buying are starting to pay off.

Because of my stupid computer which keeps resetting to daylight savings time, I did not get back in time to bid on the rifle. But, as it sold for $3 more than what I could scrounge together this morning, it didn't matter much. It sold for $375 which was a good bit lower than I expected but still probably more than what it was worth due to the sanded stock. I figured about $300.
