A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. A paper match stick placed under the sear nose would cause the rifle to fire full auto. Sometimes...or just pack it in most of the time. There's a whole thread here on this somewhere...

Aussie tels me and you all '...........The match only works on Lithgow made SLR's (I felt certain Peter would have known that being the font of all knowledge) as being cheap we only produced the one receiver type for either the L1 or the L2.........'

I say........... BADLY and SADLY INcorrect Aussie. They are all made to exactly the same spec to ensure interchangeability and it does work on the UKicon and Australianicon made L1's. I was there! The problem was that even if you tried it, an actual matchstick was too thick so you had to pare it down a bit..., then try again and even then, due to the operation of the mechanism against the and the...., it'd drop out after a few rounds and it would ONLY operate in the auto role while the match was in place anyway. And the average crunchie was not permitted to dtrip the trigger mech anyway......... that's why the change lever was retained with a split pin. So pray tell me, how do you get the remainder OUT to carry out this little wheeze while the change lever is still partially retained?

I could go oin and on......... Matt the gun guy, you're right. The match COULD work but generally speaking, it's an urban myth passed on among the, well, what's the word I'm looking for? And these clowns also forget to tell you that the trigger plunger and spring and ......... and............ and........

I might have missed something in my very limited experience with these rifles but someone will need to remind me.

There is a very detailed thread that breaks this crap wide open somewhere but I'm not a) interested in looking for it and b) computer literate enough to even try
