Cheap "fixer-upper"

Bought this recently for $250.00- cheapest non-sporterized No.1 I've yet found. Didn't look at it too closely thinking it would make a good project but got it home and it's in good shape. Very good bore and headspace checks out plus appears to have original barrel and the forend is very faintly marked with the serial number which is also on the bolt (very crisp and original looking). No "FTR" marks visible but, in addition to original Enfield marks there are what I think are BSA view marks on the left knox-form and the trigger (alone) appears to have BSA marks. I'm curious if anyone knows what the "D.E. 39" on the knox means as well as the "X" there and on the cocking piece. The legs on the handguards are chopped but otherwise quite a decent rifle. I've installed a Central sight and am looking forward to shooting it although may be a while before getting to the range (minus 20Centigrade here this morning). Have to go sit through a football game now..........

Pretty lucky catch. Good price too. I'll have to wait for the Calgary show now to see if there's one available...

Looks like a nice rifle. The "D.E.39" marking is not known to me. Sort of an odd location, too.
