UK import of IMA Martin Henry MK II.

Probably a very simple question for you regular Martini Henry chaps…..

Do you need any special permits / firearms licence etc to import a Martini Henry MKII from IMA in the USA into the UK?

Having done some reading of older threads I’m pretty sure it’s ok as an obsolete calibre, but wouldn’t like a visit from the boys in blue.

Anyone imported any of their hand cleaned and complete offerings recently, not sure quite how good the quality will be?

A Chap in our Club has had several rifles from IMA and hasnt had any trouble having them sent to the UK.

Do you know if they hold a Firearms licence? i dont hold one , so want to make 100% sure that its not required...

I brought in some a few yrs ago, no problem at all. I do have an FAC but this wasn't asked for or mentioned. I would say this: do be careful about rusting along the wood/barrel line, several I have seen have been deeply pitted. Ask them to select one with no visible rusting of the large barrel band and no visible pitting of the barrel where it meets the wooden handguard. The Mk IVs are much better.

Thanks, good advice on the pitting / potential rust. Not sure quite how much they actually refurbish. Apart from their web site, there seem to be few recent pictures around. Hopefully they may send some pictures over of what they have available......

Like RobD says he has a FAC but it wasnt required, the last rifle he had sent came in a large tube.

I was thinking of getting one of their sub calibre devices for the Martini henry.

Thanks - I'm still waiting on a reply from IMA, i think they were hit by the Hurricane, so normal service is a little disrupted..

On the britishmilitaria web site IMA said they lost power for a couple of days. If it's been a few days since you e-mailed them, I would try again.

To quote the HMRC firearms import guidance:

"Firearms more than one hundred years old are treated as antique at importation and may be imported without a DTI import licence or valid Firearm/Shot Gun Certificate". (page 21)
