    m1 garand gas plug

i hope this question isnt too dumb, will the late style gas plug vent gas if you use commercial ammo or a hotter reload for hunting ? or do you want to get a aftermarket plug?

Late style (poppet) only vents when a grenade launcher is in place. To safely shoot more modern loads (30-06 Light Magnum) in quantity, you should get the aftermarket GC lock screw, either venting or a larger volume type. Stick with 150 grain factory loads and the issue is moot (not mute). With handloads keep under 50 grains of powder (any burn rate) and you are also good to go without an aftermarket lock screw.

Dave pretty much pegged it. I finally procured an adjustable gas cylinder lock screw because I was shooting such a vast difference of ammo types. Before that, I used the late gas cylinder lock screw relief valve type and never had issues.
