No4 T Rebuild

Hi, I have had an original No4T Barrelled action for a while with the intent on one day building it into a working rifle.

Over the last months i obtained all the components needed to assemble the rifle....action parts, NOS woodwork, reproduction No32 Scope and mount, ...

I stripped the action removed all the old finish and corrosion using a product called "Evapo rust"......

I fitted the action to the woodwork..... then fitted the trigger components and set up the trigger ......it ended up a better trigger than my original BSA No4T...

Before finishing the stock and metal work , i assembled everything and did some range testing with the Repro No32......... all went well....initial groups at 100mtrs were around 1 MOA..... The repro scope actually performed very well.

All metal parts were then phosphated.. and the rifle assembled......

Even though it is a "bits" rifle, i am very happy with the results.... my opinion is it is better in this "non orginal" configuration where it can be used and enjoyed than put away somewhere to deteriorate over time..

There are some interesting comments somewhere on this forum about the problems you might encounter with your repop No32 telescope. There are some that they say are pretty well insurmountable so the next bit of advioce would have to be just look after it.

I have found that a Schweppes tonic water bottle (large) top and a plastic milk bottle (2 litre) top work well if one carves the thread out of them. They can be left in their original jolly colours of grey and green (semi-skimmed) respectively or painted black (as i have done) to match the telescope.

If one just will not stump up the silly money for a tin box for one's No.32, a metal cigarette box (200 size) found in lots of Duty Free outlets world-wide works well if suitable padded. Mine used to contain German "West" cigarettes but other brands would be suitable.

Surely beery, sets of eye caps aren't so expensive to warrant milk bottle tops are they? The best container that I've found so far is the tough polythene trip flare tube. Air and watertight end caps, come in khaki green or black that you can line inside with an old roll-mat or close density foam and it'll hold the telescope and bracket tight and secure. All from the dozy tech. storemans skip!

Can't afford to waste money what with beerhunting not being a cheap hobby. Seriously as is often the case, the bottle tops were to hand and they do the job so well I've never bothered to upgrade.

The best I ever got out of a skip was an ultrasonic bath. All in working order including the heater. Still have it and use it.

Trip flares must come in a different box than in my day. I used to hate the bloody things and I was a sapper!

The repro No32...... i read vast amounts of info before purchasing, some good some bad. I decided to take the gamble on it.

So far it has been excellent, very nice optics... and it tracks and hold true. Time will tell i supose , but for the moment very happy with it.

So far i have shot at 100 and 200mtrs...... next weekend i will be trying it at 500mtrs...

Looks like a great "no guilt" rifle that can be shot extensively without worry. Looking forward to the report on the results at 500m.
