Uploaded inspection (?) mark
If I have to make a choice, then the mark on my T38 is nearer to the mark D. than anything else in your list of inspection marks.

The finish is 100% original urushi, and you almost need a watchmaker's eyeglass to find the splice line!

My Type 38 has two marks also. The first appears to be "Q" lying on it's side. The second I don't have a clear match for.
My Type 99 has two as stated earlier. The first doesn't match anything, the second could possibly be "C"

Page 2 is below page 1, you don't actually have to click anything to get to page 2. It's just the second sheet down, the one with the stock diagrams etc, its heading says "page 2" so I referred to it as that. Sorry if I was confusing.

If you set up the two pics side by side you can see that Bill's last mark is the same as the mark on my T38.
The trouble with these marks is that I cannot find anything matching in the Kanji list or the Kana syllabaries. If they are derived from Chinese ideograms, then there are thousands of possibilities. In other words, unless someone discovers a long-lost key to these symbols, we are rather stuck.
Howver, if all of you who have rifles with such marks would take the trouble to post them, it might be possible to establish some sort of pattern as to which marks appear with which production series.

Almost certainly those are kanji inspection stamps from manufacture. They are not supplementary arsenal marks IMHO. Also, not all kanji marks are documented and often they are partially struck or double-struck.

The standard modern "basic" kanji list has 1014 symbols. And it was hard enough to look through all those!
I do not (yet) have a source for obsolete or non-standard kanjis, as may well have been in use ca. 1940. There are thousands of them. So without some kind of key I think we are snookered!

It would be interesting to see if some of the same "marks" are specific to the same arsenals.
