    Lefthand M1903 Mark I with M1917 bolt

Springfield 1903 Left Hand Conversion Bolt Action : Bolt Action Rifles at GunBroker.com

Isn't that rifle somewhat cool? Must have been hell of a work to do this, also wondering why they would use a M1917 bolt.

It is not an M1917 bolt body, just a bolt handle fitted to the '03 body as a customized solution to clear the scope and (presumably) reduce the reach required by the shooter's hand.

WOW! I would like to meet that gunsmith!!! He is good! I would think, in today's $$$ it would cost more than the starting bid just for the labor to do this!

i belive they used a complete 17 bolt, no safety lug, and a 17 bolt sleeve as well. there was a company that would convert a 1903, M70 or Mauser to left hand back in the 1950,s

Very ingenious! It would be interesting to see detailed pictures of such a hybrid bolt. Surely the locking lugs would have to be reground? And the whole body rehardened? Can you give us some idea as to how the whole assembly was fabricated - or how you would do it?

well, i wouldnt lol...the ones iv seen,..and its only been one other 1903 used a complete 17 bolt, ground it down so to speak so it would fit inside the the 1903 action, bolt handle removedm turned upside down, and rewelded back on, the receiver was modified quite a bit, trimmed behind the cut off, and metal added on the right side.
i owned a Pre 64 M70 in 375H$H for a while, it was done a little more crude then this one...iv yet to be able to take one apart to see how the trigger was modified if at all,
i should have picked the 1903 i saw, it was fs but not cheap..
