Oops, the above should read "No5 Mk I," not No4.
Thanks for the info, burb. So, mine was a '45. I guess that makes sense. It was in unissued, unfired condition when my folks bought it.

no problem cooltouch. It`s a part of my research method to learn everything I can about the rifles in my collection and even a little outside of my realm in case I run into a similar rifle at a gun show.

*update* I tracked down a bayonet for the JC locally and managed to pry it out of a fellow collector`s hands. He had gotten rid of his JC some time ago and all he had of it was the bayonet. I wanted to make sure it wasn`t one of those so called "reproductions" that came out of India so I went over to his place to check it out. Turns out it is an original enfield stamped and approved bayonet from 1946 (sure it is one year newer than my rifle but oh well beggars can`t be chosers huh?). Now with this edition This is the most complete rifle I have in my collection with no reproductions anywhere in it. I`m so happy!
