    No4 Headspace bodge

I just had a nice 1941 Maltby Come in to be checked over.

I checked the Headspace & it was fine until I noticed that there was a large burr on the right bearing surface of the action.

What some one had done is peen the action over so that the bolt locking lug was contacting only on the burr on the action, to acheive headspace.

Has anyone else seen such a disastrous bodge, this action is now proably scrap.

What to meet bubba's brother ?
I was cleaning up some junker Metford actions and found this one that has been in the "junque box" for a while. Note the precision work in fitting a SMLE bolt into a Metford with the smaller locking recess.
A work of art to behold.

The locking lug is a bit rough, but the dustcover lug looks like a nice neat grafting job...

Someone was very proud of his job at getting the rifle to pass headspace. Obviously done to deceive and make a sale. The one Warren has is just brutal...
