    My Trip to Cabela's 1-26-13

I have to put 100 miles on my car before Monday so naturally, a trip to Cabela's seemed to be the best way to help accomplish that. Something about the car's computer re-setting after some work was done on it Friday.

In any case, didn't know exactly what to expect. I haven't been up there in maybe a month. I was there shortly after the shooting on CT and it was extremely busy in the gun section. Probably 30-40 people in line waiting to be cleared by the instant check system.

Today, the used gun racks which usually number 8 were down to 4 and only 2/3rds full. Not a single milsurp in the used rack except for a sporterized and overpriced Kar 98. Only milsurps they had were 91/30's and 24/47's, at $150 and $370 each. A bit overpriced on bothy.

But the rest of the gun section was over half empty. The handgun cases were half empty. They stuck a few rifles in there to make them look used in some cases but most were just left empty.

Reloading materials were nearly all gone. The ammunition shelves were about 80% empty. It's crazy. They have not increased their prices, guns are usually always a bit high when they aren't running sales but the ammo was priced normally, they just didn't have much. The one exception was Nagant revolver ammo. They had 6 cases of that on the shelves. I mentioned it to one of the salesmen. They had had difficulty getting it for a while and keeping it in stock but now they had a huge excess. He said they had been scheduled to have a sale on the revolvers this week and pre-purchased the ammo to go with them but they were unable to get the guns and they cancelled the sale. Something weird happened there.

I did ask about the 24/47's, they had put them on sale the first week they got them and they were priced right then. The salesman expects them to be put on sale again soon if they don't sell out of them. They supposedly have 1000 in inventory right now so keep your eyes open for the sale if you're interested in one.
