A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Not shy. I don't know. It may be a German icon

scope on a top cover mount. It doesn't look like a Hensoldt scope which were sold in those days.

I dont think this is a L1, its a Argie Fal, the sling looks wrong and the sights look Fal like. Compare to the photo below.

That's definitely an FAL. I think you just nailed it. Sure looks like the same type scope too.

could be same type of scope (mounting ring close to the objective lens housing) but he has "it" mounted to a bog standard L1A1.

could even be the same scope, as the photo is taken after the Argentine icon

Army had handed in their weapons.The FAL top cover will fit the L1A1 with no modification.

From what I understand, the Argentine icon

forces never had a Sniper rifle so they huridly (Is that a word?) fitted some old scopes to there Fals and also some Remington 700s (I think they were Rem 700s but could well be wrong).

Any idea what that scope is on Muffers photo is, anyone? Looks like the mounts are stuck onto the cover with some blobs of araldite or chewing gum

I dont remember what book it was in but it was said by a sniper in the Falklands that he had had enough of his L42, think it was more to do with the scope, so he binned it and aquired one one of the FAL,s with scope and continued with this till the end of the war.

Could it be down to the L1/FAL having more fire power?
