    2a accuracy

Hi there looking at a reasonable 1964 2a. Barrel is nice and shiny. Looking for opinions on accuracy. Will be shooting mild handloads out of it if I get it. How do they compare accuracy wise to a good standard No1 Mark111 303? Thanks.

Not as good as your average .303 in my experience, but others have reported surprisingly fine results.

Of the five or so that I've tested, 3-4 MOA is about it. Not great but not terrible, either. This with standard and match ammo. No custom tailored loads.

There is no published Ishapore data, but we assume that 2A1s are probably just intended to be 3moa rifles, much like the No1s. (No1 factory pass test was about 3-4 moa)

Thus any accuracy over 3 moa is a nice bonus (and most Enfields have the potential to do much better), but there would be nothing "wrong" with the rifle if it won't go better than 3 or 4 moa.

Worth reading about the bedding of No1s, and the extreme sensitivity the rifles can have to the inner band screw/spring tension and the nosecap fit, etc. Although 2A/1s do behave differently from No1s (probably due to different round & barrel vibrations, etc), i have found that they also can be sensitive to apparently trivial adjustments.

(I had one 2A that went from about 8 moa down to about 2 moa, simply by removing and refitting the same nosecap. No change to the rifle at all!)

    My 2A1 @ 100m using 200gn Matchkings, 39gn 2208 in ADI brass.

It is untouched bedding wise. It was probably a fluke but ill take it.
