    Lee-Enfield Bandoliers

I have been looking at the Lee-Enfield bandoliers. Got a question about their use.

The bandoliers I am seeing have five compartments, each compartment holding two clips, for a total of ten rounds per compartment and fifty rounds per bandolier.

So how many bandoliers did the typical rifleman carry into combat?

Like so many things - it depends. However IIRC my Section Leading and Platoon Tactics from school, the norm would be 200 rounds per rifleman. In addition to carrying .303 for their rifle, each riflemen carried enough ammo to keep the Bren supplied They would carry two Bren Magazines in one of their pouches, which they were expected to keep filled from their personal supply of ammunition.

That's correct. If you were going out on a fighting patrol, just looking for trouble so to speak, then you'd carry lots of ammo and grenades etc etc but a 'reccy' patrol or 'look-see' would go lightly armed. Horses for courses would be the true answer to the question........
