Cavalry Carbine stock disc ID please?
Can anyone ID this stock disc? The 13L intrigues me - the 13th Hussars became the 13th Lancers much later than the date 1897, so my Q is whether during the Anglo-Boer War the stock disc would have stated 13H or 13L? Or am I missing something?

Checking the internet I suspect your unit mark is the 13th (Duke of Connaught's) Regiment of Bengal Lancers, formed in 1884 and would have been carrying carbines and lances in 1897 on the North West Frontier.
Here's a picture of a chap from that date http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:13...ncers_1897.jpg
and another showing a carbine in scabbard but from a little later http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:13...ncers_1890.jpg
And there is a photograph in this link from 1886 showing the 13th with carbines on their horses http://books.google.com/books?id=gLG...ancers&f=false
