    41 longbranch

on the hinged band, where would be the correct location (if there is one) for the longbranch stamp? I have one that has the longbranch stamp on the right side and the Canadianicon government stamp on the left. Am wondering if this is a knock off or legit as most I have seen (in pictures) show the stamp on the left side. This is assuming the screw goes left to right.

For comparison and with thanks to Advisory Panelicon member Lance, you could check the Canada - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here)

    A rare 1941 No.4 Mk1 Long Branch Rifle (click here) .....

There's lots of pics of them there, including showing various fakes and how to spot them ...

You also might want to try our Google CSE custom search engine located in the top right corner below the words "Advanced Search". It only searches our site using Google techniques and can be quite efficient. For example, in your case, type in the words 1941 longbranch and see what happens ..

As just one example of what it turns up …

If it's hinged, has the right sort of finish, and any LB stamps, I wouldn't worry. AFAWK no one has tried to replicate these and frankly, why would they? There can't be more than a few thousand Long Branch MkI rifles left now and we don't even know if all of them had hinged bands.

What's the best offer you've had so far?

There are repros out there. The way to tell the difference is that the originals are machined, the repros are stamped.
