Hey Parashooter, I just realized I learned the "O ring" trick from your post ".303 headspace 101" I found it googling when I first started reloading for my Enfield awhile back....

Thanks Parashooter for a good explanation supported by excellent photos. The scribed line test is convincing, and it had never dawned on me that the G11, having rear locking lugs, must place a similar stress on cases as the Lee Enfield. Of course, up to now I have been happily shooting GP11 ammo and not reloading, but one day, that first-class stuff is going to run out...

You are again mistaken, WarPig. I have never advocated using costly O-rings when a simple piece of discarded fishing line will do the trick at no cost.

What's your problem? I thank you for some insight I gain from one of your post and you say "you are again mistaken, WarPig" maybe I have a supply of so called costly O rings and improved on your idea. As a matter of fact I know I did.
Please forgive me O god of .303 reloading as it was stupid of me to thank the great one...
Is this a forum for everybody to exchange thoughts an ideas or is it just for a few know it alls who like to pull quotes and attempt to make people with less knowledge feel stupid? If so you can have it but you will not insult me again..... Regards, Jeffrey M. Thomas.

My "problem" with your contributions to this thread is that first you claimed benign reflections visible in one of my graphics are signs of incipient separation and then you asserted I advised you in a way I never actually had. My goal is not to make you feel stupid but to encourage you to consider more carefully before posting inaccurate information. Has the "Everyone's a winner" culture become so pervasive that we can no longer point out mistakes without risking insult?

ASAIK, Edward Horton was the first proponent of the "O-ring" on these forums. Whether he originated the idea I don't know, but it works well enough!

And WarPig1976, Parashooter has never been one who has participated in derogatory or inflamatory rhetoric on this site in all the time i've been a member. There have been others, however, who enjoyed very much such actions. Regardless of their contributions they have not been well tolerated. Some are no longer able to join the discussions at all. Too bad and sad for both them and us, in some cases!

This thread reveals an old insight - that in impersonal exchanges that do not take place "in real time" as the trendy techies say*, any remark that can be construed as personal criticism - even if not meant as such - can lead to a personal reaction, and in less time than it takes to shake a mouse, the whole thread becomes heated. I now read through everything after posting, to check for over-excitement that leads to annoyance!

Years ago George Nonte wrote a book on Cartridge Case Conversions. He suggested using wire rings to hold headspace while fireforming. Recently I used the wire from grocery store twist ties to hold the case back while fireforming 8 x 56R Hung. cases to 8 x 58R Danish Krag in a Swedish rolling block. There are several ideas here. Find what you need for the job.
