    Springfield M1 w/ VAR barrel

HI gang, I bought a Springfield M1icon with a Ser. #140xxxx which tells me it is a wartime production. I looked at the barrel and it has a crown proof and the letters VAR. No import marks are evident, Is this a return from somewhere else and did it come through CMPicon at some time?TIA pdh

It's a Danishicon return. Why not use the search feature here for the answers?? This has been discussed for ages here...full info's available.

Pardon the grumpiness about oft-asked questions. Info is a good part of why we are here.

Grumpiness is excusable. Research is a continuum. Some of us have been to the trough of knowledge a lot earlier than others.

So, VAR is the Danish national arsenal. Their barrels are first rate. Your rifle would have come through CMPicon after Denmarkicon surplused them. If you look closely, it may have BMB and PB marked parts too. These are Italianicon production that the Danes swapped in regardless of the name on the heel of the receiver. Go out and start shooting!

Very nice barrels. Danes held them to very tight specs and they are keepers.
