Rack markings on Sterling magazines

Need to see the manufacturer really BUT these Sterling made magazines were not common in UK military service. Additionally, unlike the guns, we didn't mark magazines as a general rule on the basis that so what if magazines were mixed up among the Companies. So I'd say not British. That's narrowed it down to the rest of the world!

Not Canadian, we simply would have isolated one of thos mags if it came through. Can't be using other countries stuff you know...two countries down...

I have one that is an exact copy of the top one marked....21st ANG. The thing is that it's a Patchett marked magazine vs Magazine Sterling. Patent #'s, 615471 & 692768 for UK.

APEX had them at the SAR Show in Phoenix, Dec 2012. At one time they list the Patchett on their website as "collectible" They still do @ $45.00 vs $25.00

Those are English language fonts, so that would eliminate Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India. Possibly Caribbean islands, maybe a police force's.

That could make sence if they are Patchett marked early mags...Police carbines ??

Just a little correction if I might......... The actual early PATCHETT magazines were seamed down the rear spine (and on some, the front spine too.....) with a saw blade/toothed effect. THese are quite rare. The production 'STERLING' type are what you see here, with the wavy line effect rear spine.

I was always amazed at this magazine construction. Dave Howroyd was responsible for designing the tooling to make them and told me that they were a good money spimmer for Sterling. Even at the end of 1988 production, they cost just under £3 to produce (everything made in-house except the springs, bought/brought in from Terry springs at Bromwich or was it Tamworth.... anyway!). Cost to customer £11 each and still extremely GOOD value. They could never ascertain the cost to the Government of the Rolls Razor/Mettoy commercially produced Sterling magazines but as David commented to me '........ ou can bet that they probably cost more than £3 in the 50's!'

I used a couple of cut-a-ways to illustrate good sound production engineering, thought and anything else good about magazine technology. Impossible to load wrongly, simple to load, virtually impossible to jamb up............. I left a few plus cut-a-ways at the production engineering facility at Pressed Steel in Swindon and Hamworthy in Poole where some of the others went for their production engineering phase.

I would love to find a saw tooth Parchett magazine,,, like the one on page 282 of your book. They are very rare. I've never even seen one. The Fazskerley magazines are quite rare over here too.

I think ArizonaBeagle is referring to scalloped backed Patchett marked magazines like these:

The Patchett ones (top two) I have are as you described. These were from Apex Gun Parts at the SAR Show in December.



They still list them on their website.

The second one from the bottom is parkerized as opposed to blued.

Interesting. The '21 ANG' marked one I have is the production 'STERLING' type.

The parkerized ones I have look identical to the one you have. They came from Wise Lite Arms,,, the folks who made the "Sterling Sporter",, copy of a Mk6 made from cut up Mk4's.
