    NM Barrel on EBAY

Check out the high bid on this EBAY auction. Several people must really want to restore or fake a 1927 National Match riflle. Seems nuts to me. The rifle will never again be as it left the factory so why go this crazy on a barrel for it? Salt Flat

Nuts is putting it very mildly. I hope the bidders on that had more than what was on the auction to verify what was claimed.

No picture ofthe registry number and only a blurry one of the "turtle". Somebody uinvested a LOT of money in a questionable barrel. Hope they don't get burned!

The rifle barrel looked to have a lot of blue on it. If it was original blue and the rest of the gun looked as good I would say he parted out a $3,000.00 rifle. The barrel date suggests it was the original one in the NRA Sporter. Maybe the buyer can get the rest of the rifle and reassemble it. I agree with chuckindenver, somebody got a good buy in that barrel.

over the years i think iv seen less then 3 NRA sporter barrels available FS. i own 2 of the 3 that were sold.
they make the best shooters, just a tad heavier then a standard 03 barrel.

I just found where the same seller had sold the NRA Sporter stock on ebay. The stock had been notched for a turned down bolt. It has been very nicely checkered but that would turn off many collectors. So what he parted out was an NRA Sporter with modified stock, receiver that had been drilled and taped and modified bolt. The notched stock for a turned down bolt almost guarantees the receiver had been drilled and tapped. The barrel may have been the only unmodified major part of the rifle.

Wow! Wonder what they would have paid for a NOS Sporter barrel in the original Springfield Armory shipping tube, original invoice, and original Star Gage record card.
