    A 117th Co. K Rifleman, Sgt. James Smith with Belgiumicon FFI and civilians, Sept. 1944.

    The 30th Infantry Division was a unit of the Army National Guard in World War I and World War II. It was nicknamed the "Old Hickory" division, in honor of President Andrew Jackson. The Germans nicknamed this division "Roosevelt's SS." The 30th Infantry Division was regarded by SLA Marshall as the number one infantry division in the European Theater of Operations

    Zooming in on the Gi's boots, he has some sort of ice creepers or strap on sole. They all look like they are not having a good day. It never ceases to amaze me the story that is captured in B&W candid photographs.
