A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. L39A1 and "7.62mm CONV" rifles appear to share the same numbering sequence; IIRC the highest number observed is around 1250.

I've got A1217, and I believe someone here has A1248.

    RAF Germany L39A1

    Good Day,
That's a great question. I remember that Laidlericon, Dick, et.al. were able to narrow the number of L42A1's that 'survived.' Is the actual number of L39A1's less than we think? Mine is "middle of the road" at 958.
    regards,
    Michael

Enfield made/converted rifles to L39A1 spec in 3 distinct year batches! theses were then sent to Donnington in smaller batches when requested!

1969 dated rifles, there were 300.
1970 dated rifles, there were 500.
1972 dated rifles, there were 211.

These totals do NOT include rifles marked, 7.62mm CON., 7.62MM CONV. or XL39E1, which are all part of the same serial number range!
The highest number rifle that has a Donnington shipping date on Enfields ledger is 1241, but more just might have been made as these records are not 100% complete!
