Announcement Welcome to a new forum moderator ...

I'd like to introduce another one of our members and collectors, who have volunteered to help us out moderating our newly created "The Restorer's Corner" forum.

Louis, alias louthepou is a 38 year old Canadian living in the country side near Ottawa. He's strong on woodworking skills, which he says he inherited mostly from his father. Besides fishing and hunting, it was his main leisure activity and Lou developed a taste for it early on.

His "mechanical" skills (working with metal bits) came from a motorcycling mentor (a local shop owner), who told him at age 13 that he didn't need to spend money to rebuild his motor cross rear wheel, because he surely possessed the skills to do it on his own. He's never stopped tinkering with a variety of devices since.

These two sets of basic skills, wood and metal working, needed an excuse to rise to the surface again as his two boys went from babies to children; after all, he started to have some free time again.

A chance meeting with a Canadian WW2 Veteran a couple of years ago would provide the excuse. He and his two boys and met this man in a shopping mall, a few days before Remembrance Day. At that time, he had recently acquired a sporterized Lee Enfield, knowing little about it besides the fact that the name meant something to our veterans. This veteran told him how his rifle never failed him and accompanied him as he walked from Franceicon to Germanyicon. Needless to say that meeting had a huge impact on him.

Conscious of the importance of heritage in a society (he works for one of Canadaicon's National Museums), the stage was set. He says that since that meeting, he hasn't been able stop reading about milsurp firearms, and learning from a few very knowledgeable people who have been kind enough to accompany him on his journey.

So, please join me in welcoming louthepou (click to contact) to the moderating team of "The Restorer's Corner".

    Regards,
    Badger (Doug)

I'm looking forward to this new forum. I think it's a great idea! I have read and enjoyed Lous' adventures in restoration on another site and I welcome them here.

louthepou's been a bit scarce lately due to other important concerns, but, hopefully, he'll be able to join in more when things settle down a bit. If you've missed him, send a brief PM to let him know! Blame me if it isn't a morale booster...
