    Couple Enforcer ?'s

    1) Barrel profile - are all Enforcer barrels profiled the same? Step about an inch beyond the forend?

    2) Are scopes always numbered to the rifle?

    3) What type of transit/storage chest was used? I see on Stevens site it's a wooden box (looks home made)? Any use an aluminum case? Any use molded ones like "Pelican"?

    Comments pls.

    1) Its thought that all Enforcers were originally fitted with the stepped barrel;

    2) No, in fact most do not seem to be numbered;

    3) The rifles were built in the 1970s, so no Pelican boxes or fancy gun chests. Some rifles seem to have been delivered in a Parker Hale wooden box, most have never been seen in any sort of transit chest. At the time, even Envoys - a premium target rifle - were just delivered in a tatty cardboard box.

    I'm under the impression that the majority of Pecar scopes fitted were numbered. I haven't seen that many of them so I may well be wrong. There were aluminum transit cases purchased from Arco in Franceicon for some of them. Possibly by the individual police forces to whom issued? They are distinct with a crinkle paint finish. Mine has the rifle serial number stenciled on it.

    Great comments;

    1)I have seen a few "snake skin" non stepped barrels on Enforcers. Was only able to examine one and it turned out to be a "Charnwood" assembled Enforcer. Others may have been replacements.
    2) I've seen scopes numbered and unnumbered. Perhaps it was specific to the police force that owned the rifle. I believe either are correct.
    3) Brian -Thanks for identifyinfy the hard case. Can you post a couple pictures. Definitely like to find one for my Enforcer.
    4) Has anybody seen a one piece rail that was fixed to the receiver ring using the front holes? Told there was some set up this way as the force was dissatified with the Parker Hale 2 pc set up.

    The parker Hale Custom No4 Sporters were often drilled for the A.29 mount as standard by Parker Hale. They required 3 holes to be drilled in to the side of the receiver.

    When the Enforcers were originally brought in to Canadaicon, 5 or 6 had a one piece mount base from the rear sight axis to the receiver ring. Never kept one and should have as they appeared a bit more rigid than the PH system used on most. The base appeared to be well made and a bit more than a "one of" by the quality and finish.
    As to the scope numbering. From memory, few had matching scopes. Scope numbers were the Pecar numbers and a few had a secondary number on the scope matching the rifle.
    As I have previously told RRG7 the chests were up to the Police Force who owned them and an old chum from the London Metro Force told me that they just purchased local made cases. From his recollection of the Enforcer and he had one issued to him at one time, and was also a "gunnie", some cases were wood and some aluminum......whatever the Chief Constable deemed fitting at the time and the money he had to spend.
    Most of the Enforcers that left the UKicon went through one dealer who I knew, including the majority of the ones shipped to the USAicon.
    The reason there are some "questionable ones" is that the original contract stated they were to be destroyed and many were but the parts lived on. Most of the people involved with the Enforcer deals in both the UK and the USA are now dead.

    A29 mount

    I have enforcer 141 set up with the Parker Hale A29 mount. The top of the charger bridge has been milled off as it gets in the way of the mount. The rifle number has been engraved on a different part of the receiver as the mount also covers up part of the original inscription.
    I am really bad with pictures but will attempt to post some tomorrow.
    I cannot make the file size small enough to post.

    Great info.

    There appears to be at least 3 scope mounting systems 1) most common - 2 pc Parker Hale BA20/21 2) one pc Parker Hale A29 and 3) one pc rail from rear sight axis pin hole to front of receiver. Would like a picture of Type 3 or a good solid description - ie steel or aluminum, rings used, profile, etc.

    Thanks,

    Ron (Canadaicon)
