No.5 Ejection

Now and again, my No.5 doesn't eject properly. (BTW, all my other Lee-Enfields are OK so it isn't operator error.) Whenever this has happened to to other people's rifles I have checked their extractor springs and always found them not to be stiff enough.

So, I checked my No.5's extractor spring and found that it is a little soft. However the extractor itself moves backwards and forwards in its slot a little more than my other rifles.

At last the question! Should I just change the spring or is the extractor and/or extractor screw part of the problem. It's not the difference in cost (a fiver) but rather not wishing to try to fix that which is not broken.

It's now whether the extractor moves back and forth or not, but the load it imparts onto the extractor and subsequently, the rim of the fired case. It is the extractor spring that pushes the extractor over to the left that forces the left side of the fired case hard, into the inner tapering wall of the inner body side. New extractor spring. Clean out the slot too and ALWAYS replace the axis screw at the same time
