Chilean 7MM mauser
Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum and I know little of Mausers especially a Chilean
Mauser. But In the late 1970's, while I was on active duty in the Marine Corps a buddy of mine owed me money and could not pay, so he gave me this rifle as payment. It had been sporterized and is pretty ugly( he only owed me $50.00), but one thing struck me on this rifle. It has a separate serial # with a Star of David under it. I thought maybe it was used in the 1948 Israeli War for independence, but that is just a wild guess. Sorry, one of these pics is upside down. I would really appreciate any thoughts from the experts. Thank You.

Has nothing to do with Israel. It's commonly found on South American Mausers. Probably a Loewe mark.

Like Aragon said, it is a mark commonly found on South American Mausers. I've not been able to find anything authoritive on the background of the 6 point star, but it is on many of my Mausers made by Ludwig Loewe and its successor company DWM.
It could well have something to do with the Loewe family being Jewish.

My 1891 Argentine Loewe Berlin mauser has no such mark. If it is a common mark on south American mausers made by that company why would it not be on my Argentine mauser? Was this mark put only on the south American mausers under DWM?
