I notice the Canadianicon soft case has a rubber bumper and a properly printed label, rather than a handwritten one. I always wondered why the UKicon cases didn't.
I checked the cap screws. They are snug and have been for decades...best have your eyes checked...... Gary.....

    I stand by my comment.

It certainly looks a bit odd, maybe there is packing to tighten the scope? or it's locked up on the opposite side, causing the skewed effect.

I agree that they DO look a bit proud and therefore loose. But if you own a Norton and they ain't worked loose yet, then that's good enough for me!

As a bit of an aside, when I was on the shop floor, I used to peen the steel from the screw into a recess in the outer steel. A sort of stake in reverse. Especially on te big Browning M1919's and Bren locking shoulder screws/bolt

Judging by the damage to the slots: the screws have been undone and then tightened again, perhaps several times. The slots have been almost correctly aligned with the stake marks, and in one case it looks like someone might have had a go at re-staking. Could have been while in service or later.

I see none of the accumulation of dust and debris that "decades" of "undisturbance" would create. The opposite in fact. Look at where the screws enter the lower half of the bracket. Notice how dirt and dust has accumulated in the space between the bracket and the caps, but there is none around the screw threads.

Nice photo of a car in the picture on the wall, top left. A red Mini Cooper......... Got two of 'em. One red and silver, one white and black! Went for a drive in the 1969 S this very afternoon after replacing the rear gearbox extension mounting bush. What Norton do you have - or have I already asked?
