A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... I've posted this in the Holy Grail thread but I'll repost it here because.... well I just haven't been able to for some time now.

I've been very lucky in my 25+ years of collecting Enfields to be able to stock my small collection with some very nice examples of rare Enfields. The one that eluded me for many years though was an L42A1. Well that changed a couple of weeks ago with the arrival of this:

Here's the serial number barcode on the end of the chest:

With thanks to Simon I know:

    Simon.
On the other end of the chest a shipping label. Interesting its #44 of 209. Were all 209 pieces L42's? How many other shipments went out? Interesting.

Stores tags attached to the rifle:

Which corresponds with the unit markings on the outside of the chest and on the butt stock:

With a little push in the right direction from PL and a bit of time using Google I learned the rifle was formerly on issue with 1st Battalion, 52nd Lowland Volunteers, D (Cameronians) Company at Hamilton. Interestingly D Coy. was disbanded April 1 1992 at about the time the L42 was being retired from service.
As with so many of these rifles it's missing most of its accessories so I guess my new grail quest will be to fill all the little slots. Now for the big sell-off to pay for it!

And an interesting 1943 Long Branch No.4 skeleton action.
