    Report: Rear Sight Tool

M1 Carbine Rear Sight Install and Removal Tool Free Shipping | eBay

This tool has been available for several months on eBay and I haven't seen any mention of it here in the forum, so I am offering a preliminary report. I just bought one and so far I am very pleased. I have removed and replaced three (3) Type 1 sights with this tool with absolutely no problem whatsoever. One of these sights was drifted on with extreme effort and it came off, and a replacement installed, like butter.

The machining tolerances are very close in fit to the receiver - which is crucial to avoiding metal damage and the overal construction is beefier than I expected. Next to the very costly original GI unit, I think the force distribution in this unit is superior to anything else out there and at $30 delivered I couldn't help pulling the trigger. Operation is very simple and very fast. This tool will make sight adjustment at the range a snap. If there is a weak point it may be with the synthetic tip on the pusher bolt but it appears to be very tough material and I don't think I will wear it out in my lifetime. Anyway, this tool meets my requirements and expectations in every way and I will be fine tuning all of my rear sights with it at the range.

This is only my report based on limited use to date but I thought it might be useful to some who might be looking for a useful tool at a very reasonable price. I would welcome input from other users, pro or con. I have no personal nor financial interest in this sight tool nor in any entity that manufactures or distributes it. Semper Fi, ChipS

I looked this tool over a few weeks ago and thought it looked pretty darn good - especially for the price. I've got the other commercial one that was about twice the cost, and even it takes quite a bit of fiddling with to work right and not mar the receiver. It didn't include the spacer either. - Bob

The same seller offers some front sight tools that are also reasonably priced. The tool he sells for removing and installing the pin interests me, but it might mark up the pin more than a drift punch would - also could leave some aluminum smudges on the parkerizing that might be hard to remove. - Bob

Bought one also, received a Amazon gift card from my son and bought that and a front sight tool. Seems to work well and the price is awesome.

Thanks for the review. I just bought a set of tools from this seller and am waiting delivery. I bought the front sight removal and install tools as well. Glad to hear the rear sight tool works as advertised so I look forward to trying the front sight tools.

I received the tools and although I have not used the rear sight tool yet, I did use the front sight pin tool. It worked great and made it very easy to push the sight pin out and the front sight removal tool worked great as well.. I haven't put it back in yet as I ran into a problem with the "key" when putting the sight back on but I see no reason it will not make putting the sight pin in as easy as removing it.
