    scope mount for sweedish mauser?

im possibly getting a sweedish mauser soon, was wondering if theres a no gunsmith mount that wouldnt permanently alter the rifle? My primary reason is collectability but if i can mount a scout scope or something i may just bring it hunting

Mounts are available from B-Square, to fit a pistol or scout scope with a long eye relief in place of the service backsight leaf. I have one for K98icon-family rifles, and it is useful for testing a rifle instead of my eyesight! My catalog lists one for the Swedishicon Mauser as well.

Horrible mounts in my and others' experience. B-Square usually makes the rifle seemingly less accurate. Patrick Chadwick is the only person I know to ever positively comment on those mounts. I have had such a mount on a very accurate Swede that I knew beforehand shot very well, as I purchased it from a friend, but t would not group at all using the scope. (Not my installation, but my friend's who got frustrated after adding the scope...) Had seen similar problems on a multitude of rifles. Mausers of various sorts, handgun, even an SVT40.

Alternatives? Dunno. S&K, maybe? The only rear sight replacing mount I have currently is one I cobbled up, but it added a dowel pin through the sight base:

The rail is screwed onto a hunk of 7075-T651 which was fit carefully into the recess. (Light press fit as installed.)

Well JM, I do confess that you typically have to wedge the thing between the sides of the backsight ramp, with a slip of copper or brass shim, otherwise it tends to rock on the very short pin axis. But for the terrible 98-family open-V sights, it is still better than my eyeballs. In the case of the Swedishicon Mauser, which has a much better backsight leaf and blade then a K98icon, I agree with you.

That is where the B-Square fails, and why one needs a shim.

I have a B-square mount for a No1 MKIII Enfield and it works fine. I had it on for years and shot two deer with it but took it off recently to restore it to military standard. It is not a scout mount however. It's a side mount that permanently attaches via the extraction screw and then clamps to the charging bridge. I had strong doubts about it as it seems rather awkward and easily whacked but it held up well for what I used it for. Guys at the range loved it.

That fellow sure made a nice looking mount! As for scopes, my favorite long eye relief scope is the Weaver. I like them better than Leupold or Burris. Leupolds tend to require the scope further forward than is practical/comfortable due to a very long eye relief. Burris is good when they're good. But that seems hit or miss.
Nikons have too much edge distortion.

As for intermediate eye relief scopes- not much experience there.
