1949 Long Branch rear sight and barrel?
Received a new 1949 Long Branch.
Could only get 3 pictures to attach (too large they say).
The question I have is the rear sight is CMk3 which would be earlier?
And the barrel is a 6 groove (1950s) which would be later?
Anyone with data? I looked into the references that I have all state pretty much the same.
Look to be all original. Do not believe I am taking this one apart.
I have 60 plus in the corral so I do not say it lightly.
No buggered screws, completely clean and sharp.
I try more pictures if anyone want to see a particular part or proof mark.

ALL Long Branch no4 rifles(other than snipers) were fitted with mkIII (and C.MkIII/C.Mk3) rear sights starting about June 1944 thru closeout of production in 1956.
What it the chamber date of your barrel?
My LB 1949 with C.Mk4 barrel is barrel dated 1949, and the latest C.Mk4 barrel in my collection is dated 1958.
From 1949 thru 1956 5 groove MkI and 6 groove C.Mk4 barrels appear to have been fitted concurrently, though the vast majority were MkI 5 groove barrels.

Took the rifle apart anyways. Barrel is C.Mk4 dated 1949.
Thanks for the information.

The Canadians don't seem to have incorporated any of the postwar improvements and the '50s ones were pretty much just the same as the last wartime ones.

Except they did start Parkerizing new rifles in the 93L range during 1950 as well as any FTR rifles done at CAL after that period of time. A much superior finish to the Dulite blue as used before.
