    As close as I'll get

I'll try to keep this short--I went to a gun show several months ago. I'm retired so my gun budget is on the lower end of the spectrum. Consequently I love to dig through those dollar boxes for small parts. I found one of those boxes and pulled out 5 or 6 parts. I also pulled out a 1903 springfield barrel and asked the table holder if it was a buck also. He said yea so at that price I didn't bother examining it and just paid the man. When I got home I scrubbed out the bore and it looked good. The minus was that it had been used on a sporter and the date and arsenal markings were polished off. It also had some pretty nice engraving on it. It was still 24 inches though so maybe I could use it on one of my project guns. Anyay I didn't look at it again until yesterday. I was looking at the crown when I realized it had a marking that most of us really like to see. (see pictures) I know, I know-- with the other markings gone it still is probably only worth a buck (maybe two). But it is probably as close to a NM I'll ever get. Salt Flat

Look on the bright side(??), they used that rifle for sporter because it would be supremely accurate.

For a buck you scored pretty big, markings or no markings.

You might be surprised - I never thought I'd have a NM and over the years, things came together and I have four of the little darlings!
