Refurbished K98K

Hey all,

I am looking at purchasing a K98. It's not a RC but a refurbished mauser from E Suhl in 1950, apparently. I am paranoid about the Mitchell Mausers refib which this one is not.
This rifle looks pristine but I am concerned with the historical value. What significant is a German refurb vs a RC in historical context?

Are you referring to the one being offered on CGN? It looks to be a nice rifle, typical East German rework. Depending on when the East Germans did them, they left them in varying states of originality. The one I saw listed has the "dirty birds" on the receiver peened, but seems to have largely original serial numbers, with, if memory serves me minimal electropencilling. The East German ones can usually be told from the Russians by:
The rather orange coloured extractor
The nicer job done, and largely matching parts (the Russians threw all the parts for several hundred rifles into a bluing tank and put whatever came out together and then forcematched it. The Germans, being German, took a bit more time and actually matched things)
The lack of crap shellac on the stock
The lack of belt sanding on the stock flat

It is still a post war refurb, but is as close as you're going to get to an original matching one kar98 without actually finding a WWII one, or one of the ones the Yugoslavs salted away.... Prices, I don't know, but I suspect they should be worth at least what the "RC" stuff is going for. That one looked quite nice, but I don't recall the price. Didn't strike me as being too high based on what these things are going for now.

IF it's an all correkt e.German then it is worth a good bit more than an RC. While the e.German reworks are around they are not at all common.
I got mine by picking out the best of 3 that were available several yrs ago.
